Launch of the 2011 World Disasters Report

On 22 September, the Red Cross/EU Office organised a launch of the 2011 World Disasters Report (WDR) focusing on hunger and malnutrition at the European Policy Centre (EPC) in Brussels.

A policy dialogue complemented the findings of the report with speakers discussing policy implications for the countries involved as well as for European policies. Speakers debating these issues were Claus Sorensen, Director General for DG ECHO at the European Commission, Christine Van Nieuwenhuyse, Director at World Food Programme in Brussels, Jean-Michel Grand, Executive Director at Action Against Hunger UK and VOICE Board Member and Matthias Schmale of the IFRC. The dialogue was chaired by Josef Janning, EPC Director of Studies.

The EPC released a report summarising the main points and conclusions drawn by the speakers.
