The Red Cross/EU Office represents and promotes the interests of the European Union National Red Cross  Societies and of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. What is the mandate of the RC/EU Office?

The Red Cross/EU Office represents the:

Red Cross National Societies of the Member States of the European Union (EU National Societies)

International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the Federation) to the EU Institutions, Brussels based international organisations and NGO networks

What is the objective of the RC/EU Office?

  • Support EU National Societies and the Federation to meet the needs of vulnerable people inside and outside the EU

What are the functions of the RC/EU Office? 

Advocacy

  • Seek recognition of the specific mandate of the Red Cross
  • Pool ideas & expertise into a strong voice on EU issues

Partnership building

  • Strengthen collaboration and partnership building on joint projects
  • Support EU National Societies and the Federation in fundraising
  • Increase networking with Brussels-based international organisations and NGO networks

An EU house

  • Support EU National Societies and the Federation in developing relations with the EU institutions
  • Provide tailor-made training sessions and briefings to EU National Societies and the Federation.

Information sharing

  • Enable the exchange of timely, relevant and quality information on EU issues.

In the area of Disaster Management focus is given to:

  • Humanitarian Aid
  • Civil Protection

In the area of Intra-Community Affairs priority areas of work concentrate on:

  • Health & Social Care
  • First Aid & Road Safety
  • Asylum, Migration & Displacement
  • Youth & Volunteering
  • Non-Discrimination and Promotion of Humanitarian Values

In the area of International Development common approaches and activities focus on:

  • Health (including Malaria, HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis)
  • Risk Reduction & Disaster Preparedness (including Climate Change)
  • Food Security & Water and Sanitation
  • Migration & Development
